Okay, I haven't been too active on the blog but I came across this really fun software that creates 3D projections from GPS data, so take your latest epic adventure track and look at it on a 3d projection. It's a little slow and quirky but definately worth burning a few hours.

Okay, I know I said it was awesome but that was before I discovered the navigation controls, you can fly over and through the landscape! It is depandant on USGS data which is pretty complete for most of the country. Turns out the guy that wrote it lives in Boise... maybe someday I'll run into him on the trails.
