Jen and I are going with our friend mike this weekend to hike the 15-20 mile ridgeline of mt rose. it should be alot of fun, or pain ,we haven't decided which. its a 3 day event. camp 2 nights, backpack the rest. while looking through some pictures, we ran across kevs proposal.

Randy Creitz now has a blog: Senseless Wonderings of an Insane Person.

He graduated from WWC in June I think with a masters in Education (Elementary? I'm not sure) and is living in Payette, Idaho now. He's about to start the school year teaching at a 1-8 SDA school, and he intends to blog it.

chainmail armor

I was reading some storys here about how people broke into the game industry. for some reason this one made me think of kev. can anyone figure out why?

I was selling chainmail armor at our local farmers market when a lady hopped down in front of my booth and asked me if I knew any artists because her and her husband were starting a game development company in town.. So I told some friends about them, then got to thinking that they would need more than just artists, but also writers, designers, etc. Now I had always loved gaming and telling stories, so I applied for a design position which I now enjoy daily.

long way around

we watched long way around. a 6 episode series about obi 1 kinobi (ewen mcgreggor) and his friend that got sponsored and road motorcycles around the world. KTM backed out of the sponsorship, citing the fact that they wern't prepared, but BMW proudly stepped up and gave them 3 1150 GS's. 2 for them, and one for their camera man. the series is plenty full of cursing. but it does show the ability of the bikes and a few design points that needed to be addressed. all in all it is a good series, although I wish they'd tailered it more to demoing the capabilitys of the bikes. 2 of the 3 bikes broke the rear subframe in the same point, partly due to design defect, and partly due to the fact that when you try to drive around the worl you carry alot of junk with you that inevitably overloads the tail. supposedly BMW fixed that flaw on the new 1200 GS, which I have been riding for the better part of the summer, and now has almost 7,000 miles on it. I have been riding a yellow version of this....



this fall they are suppose to have out the HP2, same basic 100hp bike but with more an an enduro emphasis. its such a pretty bike, but i'm thinking the basic 1200gs is still much more alaska (high milage in a day) worthy, than the HP2. I don't have that kind of money anway, but one can always dream. see the HP2

Sunshine on a stick.

We were at bible study last night and mike the concrete guy was talking about his 'sunshine on a stick'. I thought that was quite a nifty name. it was the name of his self contained light poles so they can do midnight poors of concrete and still see what in the world they are doing.

a web search revealed sunshine on a stick was a health comercial by some lemmon looking thing, and that is what they dubbed frozen make it yourself fruit popsicles. I'm sure I was around in 83, but for the life of me, I can't remember Timer or his sunshine on a stick

US stinks at saving

personal savings rate for the us in june was 0 %. yup a big fat 0. my understanding is that this doesn't take into account pre-tax deductions (i.e. a company retirement plan). this is just a net after tax minus what people are spending. no matter how you slice the bread this can't be good in the long term. some people claim that it isn't so bad because nationally the savings is at something like 14% but this article clears up a couple things. maybe the "end times" will arrive because nobody will be able to buy or sell since nobody will have any money saved. haha.

the beginning of the end

during a recent windows update at work, i noticed it was trying to figure out if i had a pirated copy of windows. so, the rumers two months ago WERE true: MS is chopping off support for bootleged copies of XP. this can only enlarge their black eye: yet more boxes will be security risks. who thought this up?

for quite some time i've considered spending some time learning RUBY.

Ruby On Rails may push me over the edge as I venture forth into the continued persuit of a flexible CMS that can be given to our churches, hosted here, and extensible enough to handle the future while standardizing on xhmtl.
their 15 minute quick demo at least has some cool ideas, like using the field order in the database to control the actual presentation for dynamic forms. i'm liking it.
