second life

the game second life had a funny write over at wired.
it's worth a read.

people didn't want their virtual world to have traditional games in it because people play computer games in solitude and done't want to be reminded of how truly anti social they are in real life.

this story is just so weird. the correlation to the matrix is truly disturbing

the whole thing makes me laugh. bummer i actually want to play second life but need a CC to get in (they don't charge it initially). some of the user mods (like the first person shooter) sound very intersting from a coders perspective.

I gladly gave them my CC# (I'm on a free account) but haven't had much time to play around since I signed up a month ago.

second life was free to register for, no CC required. so last week i registered and stomped around the game for awhile. not all that interesting to me. Maybe i'm just not dedicated enough to see the fun in it. but an hour wasn't enough to convince me. besides, it looks like it was taken over just like most things in real life. it had alot of gambling, porn, and ADs all over the place. maybe it reflects real life, but whats the point in that if your tyring to escape that? I give it a big thumbs down.
