Acrobat Reader as a Presentation

one of the things that can be done with LaTeX is make a presentation viewable in adobe's acrobat reader. ah whatever i thought when i read that. i'll probably just use powerpoint or the word perfect version since those are designed for that.

however, today i thought i would just have a peek at what you can do with LaTeX presentations to see if i am missing anything.... and i think i'll use it. download (to get full effect, but can just view it in broswer) "An example using many features" (name of file:beamerexample1.pdf) from the beamer sourceforge page. check it out in full screen mode (ctrl-L or there is an icon on the bottom left of adobe reader). looks pretty normal until you start clicking on the outline at the top of the screen. now i am sure there is some way to do that in powerpoint. but i don't know how and to be honest don't care. i know how LaTeX does it. you tell it at the beginning you want that to appear at the top and based on your headings that you tell it for each slide it auto generates your outline. i'm going to try it out for my presentation next week.

i was reading about the early years of wikipedia. a dude wrote (and i assume donated) code to allow TeX markup for math into wikipedia a few years ago.

essentially all of TeX packages and the core program are open source and as far as i can tell done for free. it is a way more powerful program than most for sale ones.
the community is esp. helpful too. when i had a conflict between two packages and i didn't know how to fix it, i posted on the google comp.tex.tex group and someone solved it for me the next day.

on a note related to my orig. post... my presentation this morning was beautiful... graphics, bulleted lists...sidebar...
too bad my computer decided to not cooperate! or maybe it was the stupid projector...
i plugged my cable into the projector. no signal. rebooted. showed the splash screen on the projector for windows startup. logged in. no signal. changed resolution to the lowest i could go, low color, low refresh rate. no signal. grrr. abandoned all hope. had to switch rooms. used another person's memory stick to transfer the pdf to the computer there.
hey at least it looked pretty.
