Should we party or mourn?

According to Google, it's International Women's Day

I'm not rightly sure what this does for me/against me as a woman, but apparently it's quite important in places other than my little world...

http://www.isis.aust.com/iwd/stevens/introduction.htm says:
The history of IWD dates back to 1910 internationally and, in Australia, to 1928. But socialist women in the United States organised the first national Women's Day in 1908 and helped to inspire the international event.

The day has been variously seen as a time for asserting women's political and social rights, for reviewing the progress that women have made, or as a day for celebration. In keeping with its early radical traditions, Lena Lewis, U S. socialist, declared in 1910 that it was not a time for celebrating anything, but rather a day for anticipating all the struggles to come when" we may eventually and forever stamp out the last vestige of male egotism and his desire to dominate over women"

YET it may be easy for to conclude we're past those times.

http://www.mspb.gov/studies/sexhar.pdf indicates our society is become MORE hypersensative to sexual misconduct so maybe those times are not past.

i kinda like/hate these types of things. do i think that women and blacks should be equal to all you fully limbed white guys? yes! do i think equality means equality? sorta! if we have women's day shouldn't we have men's day? and white history month? and hispanic history month? probably transgender month? uhhh i dunno what to think on that...

Crazy. I mean, good for them to have something of value now. But what ever happened to cooking rice in a pot of water on the stove/fire?

I saw the 'special google' graphic and it had the female symbol on it. I didn't click it to find out what it was all about but the symbol struck me as interesting. it could be christian (like the popes hat) or female.. so does that mean the pope is female since he's wearing the symbol on his head?
