Universal Port?

USB is Universal Serial Bus... is it becoming truly universal for things that don't really need the bus?
An interesting product indicating the versatility of usb is a battery that has a usb plug on it. it functions as a battery but can be recharged by plugging it into the usb port on a computer (or x box or whatever has a usb port). at $20 for two AA it isn't exactly cheap, but the idea is excellent. see usbcell.com for details.

i do hope this expands greatly, not necessarily usb, but the idea of a multifunction port. wouldn't it be nice if a house were wired for power and internet at the same time so that any power outlet is an internet outlet and vice-versa?
